Lax Instruction

2-3-1 Offense

Overview

When executed properly, the 2-3-1 formation:

  • Creates a balanced offense;

  • Creates confusion for the defense;

  • Creates multiple options for ball movement, feeding and scoring.

Rotate Triangles
  1. The key to success is for everyone constantly to move off-ball.
  2. Stay spread to make it harder for the defense.
  3. Work in 2 triangles to clear and fill your slots.
  4. Dodge-Pass-Pass-Dodge;
  5. As each member of the triangle cuts through, the others must follow to
    fill space, maintain field balance and stay in their respective triangle.
  6. Midfield and Attack triangles rotate in opposite
    directions!
    This makes it more difficult for the defense to slide, as it
    will be harder for them to watch both their man and the ball, creating better feeding & cutting opportunities.

Defensive Crease Slide

Overview

This video demonstrates how to slide from the
crease in an odd-man situation:

  • The video shows how to defend against a midfield
    dodge, but the concept is the same from behind;

  • Defense rotates to the ball;

  • The defenseman farthest from the ball must cover 2 players.

Slide Package
  1. The key to success is communicating a 2nd slide to
    back-up the crease defenseman;
  2. When executed properly, this slide package forces
    the offense to make a difficult skip pass through traffic to hit the open
    man;
  3. Off-ball defense must keep their sticks up, ready to
    pick off a skip pass;
  4. Everyone must fire in and out quickly on a piston.
